How Ugochwku Christabelle (Second Place) Hopes to Shape the Future

We are proud to award second place to Ugochukwu Christabelle for an essay that balances technical ambition with heartfelt social mission in a way that feels both inspiring and achievable. Ath the heart of Christabelle’s Story is Conviction. Christabelle’s message to every girl who has been told her future is uncertain is clear and powerful: “Believe in yourself, write your own story, and shape your tomorrow.” In her hands, technology becomes a tool for equity, and success becomes a platform for lifting others.

They say the future is uncertain for the young, the less privileged, and for girls. But I do not believe that. My future is not uncertain. It begins today with my vision, my dreams, and my belief that even a small girl like me can build a brighter world.

I believe that shaping the future starts with what we do now. Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right.” I choose to think I can because I believe in determination and hard work.

I want to shape the future by becoming a software engineer. I plan to start a tech company that uses innovation to solve real problems in my community and beyond. I want to build apps that give free offline education and create solar-powered tablets that help children learn even where there is no electricity. These tablets will be shared in schools and libraries so that no child is left behind. I know I will have to start small, learn, and grow, but every big dream begins with one step.

Through my company, I also want to create jobs and teach young people useful digital and vocational skills. I believe technology should help people, not leave anyone out. I want my work to make life easier and better for others.

I was raised by a single parent, so I understand what it means to face challenges. That is why I also hope to shape the future by building a foundation that helps single parents, orphans, and less privileged children. The foundation will support families with food, housing, and school fees so that children can stay in school and have hope for a better tomorrow.

I also want to speak to young people through seminars and events, encouraging them to believe in themselves, stay disciplined, and never give up. I want to use my story to inspire others to dream big and work hard no matter what life throws at them.

I know the road ahead will not be easy. There will be challenges and moments when things feel too hard. But I will keep going because I believe this is my purpose. With God by my side, I know I can overcome anything.

I carry hope in my heart, and hope will lead me forward. The future is not something that just happens; it is something we build step by step and choice by choice. Every decision I make today is helping to shape the world I want to see tomorrow.

If it is my will, who can stop me?

With God, who can stop me?

My name is Ugochukwu Christabelle and this is how I hope to shape the future.

By dreaming big, working hard, helping others, and never giving up and to every girl who has been told her future is uncertain, I say: believe in yourself, write your own story, and shape your tomorrow.
